After a long winter, summer is finally here! If you spent the colder months indoors, you might be discovering that it’s time to freshen things up. Prepare your home for the warmer season ahead by:
Purge the pantry! Winter eating includes plenty of hearty meals and holiday leftovers. Make room for fresh summer produce by removing all food items from cupboards and chillers and purge away! While you are at it, remove all of the interior shelving and wash with warm, soapy water. Wipe down the remaining surfaces with a sponge and all-purpose cleaner to leave your fridge bacteria (and smell) free!
The bright sun may now be illuminating a not-so-clean exterior! Remove spots, dust, and smudges with a hefty cloth or dishrag to cut through the grime. Be weary of abrasive sponges as they tend to scratch sensitive surfaces and plastics. Pro tip: wait for a cloudy day to wash the glass to prevent cleansers from drying out before you’re done wiping.
After hibernating under piles of blankets and pillows, it may be time for them to be freshened up. While your sheets and pillowcases are cleaned every two weeks, your fluffier items need only be laundered 3-4 times a year, depending on their usage. If your home machine isn’t large enough, drop off your comforter at your local laundromat for a professional deep-clean. While your bedding is away, take your vacuum nozzle to your mattress, spot clean any spots or stains, and spritz disinfectant spray so you feel as fresh laying down as you do waking up.
